​Zhaiying Ancient Village


Zhaiying Ancient Village is located in Zhaiying Town, Songtao Miao Autonomous County, Tongren City, Guizhou Province. It is situated at the eastern foot of Mount Fanjing, a national nature reserve in the Wuling Mountains.

It was built in the 18th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1385) and has a history of more than 600 years. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, due to its developed waterway, business and trade were extremely prosperous, and it was once known as "Little Nanjing".

The ancient village is the largest existing ancient architectural complex at the foot of Mount Fanjing, integrating Miao architecture and Huizhou architecture. The buildings are of strict structure, simple and elegant, scattered at random. The ancient city walls, ancient city gates, bluestone streets, and red stone Fanjing ancient roads are unique. There are also many ancient buildings such as Jinshan Temple, Huilong Temple, Wanshou Palace, Fushou Palace, Guanyin Mountain.

Cultural Heritage

Rolling Dragon Art:The rolling dragon art in Zhaiying has a history of more than 600 years and is unique. The rolling dragon is 36 meters long and consists of 17 sections. It is tied and connected by nine thumb-thick bamboo strips to form the dragon's skeleton. The rolling dragon art combines various arts such as textile, embroidery, carving, and paper-cutting and has been named "the Hometown of Chinese Rolling Dragon Art" by the Ministry of Culture.

Other Folk Arts:In addition to the rolling dragon art, there are also rich folk arts and cultures such as Zhaiying lanterns, which evolved from the integration of Chenhe Opera, Yang Opera, Sichuan Opera brought by merchants and the tea lanterns by the local people.
