2025 Sisters Meal Festival Tour(In April)

Our guide and driver meet you in the lobby of your hotel in Guiyang, Or Upon arrival at the airport or railway station of Guiyang, the provincial capital of Guizhou. Then drive to Kaili, the largest city in southeastern Guizhou and the center of Miao culture, where you will get into nearby ethnic minority villages to join in the grandest Sister's Meal Festival in the following days. If you arriver early, we can explore the old streets of Kaili city.

Today we would visit  three villages: Langde Upper Miao village, Wudong Miao village and Matang village of Gejia group.

After breakfast, pay a leisure visit to explore Miao's history and culture in Langde Upper Miao Village, which is considered to be the live museum of Miao Culture. This village is surrounded by mountains and rivers and boasts wooden stilt houses, winding mountain paths, and well-preserved Wind and Rain Bridge. Visit a local Miao family and have lunch in a Miao wooden house. This afternoon you will visit Matang Gejia village to see handmade batik. Matang is inhabited by Gejia people, who is classified as Miao people by local government, but Gejia people deny to be Miao people, they claim to be the descendants of Houyi (as a legend goes, the ancestor Houyi could shoot the sun with the bow and arrow.) and adore bow and arrow. Their festal clothes just look like ancient warrior. Gejia people are specialized in batik that you can fully appreciate the uniqueness of the Gejia batik patterns, if you are interested, you can learn how to make batik with wax from a local people and create batik work with your own painting. 

In the morning, you will head to Taijiang to admire the Opening ceremony of Miao Sisters Meal Festival. As one of the most famous Miao festivals, the Sisters Meal Festival, known as the oldest Valentine's Day in China, is a pageant for young people to look for a soulmate, as well as a celebration of love and spring. During the festival, you will be able to see Miao girls dressed up in beautiful ethnic costumes with exquisite embroidery and startling silver ornaments. In Taijiang you will have a chance to see around 5 different Miao tribes to have a grand parade in their traditional clothes. Except for the interactivity between the single men and women by singing and dancing, you can also appreciate bullfighting, wooden-drum dancing, traditional Miao performances.

Today you will drive to Shidong to join in the Sisters Meal Festival in Laotun village. You can see how the Miao girls prepare their silver ornaments, and how they dress up for the festival. Sometimes the festival preparation process is more interesting than the festival itself. In the late afternoon, drive back to Kaili. 

Visit Shiqiao Miao village in Kaili, then Drive to Jiabang. Jiabang Rice Terraces are located at the heart of the Yueliang Mountains in the west of Congjiang county Guizhou. The Jiabang Rice Terraces were cut from the hill terrain in, with hundreds of layers. It is extending some 25 kilometers and said to be the best terraced rice paddies in China. You can enjoy mirror-like terraces in spring, green terraces in summer, and gold terraces in autumn, it depends on which season you are there. The terraced fields are a harmonious combination of human effort and natural beauty. It is so beautiful when rice terraces are combined with the peaceful and unique wooden Miao Minority houses. Because of the tough road, things and views there keep very original and few visitors know it. You can take a soft hiking through the terraces and villages, enjoy the beautiful views, typical wooden houses and unique local life.  

Today you will move to Congjiang to visit the Basha Miao Village where China's last tribe of gunmen lives. Despite strict gun control laws in the rest of China, each man in this tribe is allowed to keep his gun. But today it is only for hunting wild animals, and it becomes a symbol of being a man in this Miao tribe. In Basha, local Miao men still have long hair and make a topknot, around which the other hair is shaved by a sharp sickle. Afterward, you will continue the way to Zhaoxing, where you will visit Zhaoxing Dong Village, it's one of the largest Dong villages in China. In the evening, you will enjoy the Dong Chorus. All Dong people are good at singing, they often say the rice fills into their stomach, while the songs fill into their hearts. 

After breakfast, you will head to explore Tang'an Dong village. Settled at a mountainside and surrounded by terraced fields and lush greens, Tang'an village is the miniature of all Dong villages in the southern dialect region. Hiking down the hills to Zhaoxing from Tang'an village takes about 2 hours, and the hiking trails passing though terraced paddy fields. In the afternoon, drive to Libo county. On the way to Libo, visit Zengchong Dong village.
Visit Libo old town at night. 

Visit Xiaoqikong in the morning, the famous UNESCO attraction in Guizhou. Xiaoqikong scenic area is praised as “The Emerald on the Belt of the Earth”. Strolling around the Karst natural landscape at Xiaoqikong(Seven Small Arches) and Maolan National Nature Reserve in Libo, apart from the exquisite scenery of “Head up like Zhangjiajie, Head down as Jiuzhaigou”. You will spend 4hours here, and visit Xiaoqikong ancient bridge, Laya waterfalls, 68grades waterfalls, Cuigu waterfalls, Wolong waterfalls, Wolongtan Lake. 

In the afternoon, we drive back to Guiyang. Enjoy the night food market in Guiyang, and taste Guiyang street snacks.

Depart Guiyang by bullet train or by flight, the tour ends.
