2025 Guizhou Gulong Lusheng Festival Tour Explore Miao and Dong Tribes(In November)

Arrival at Congjiang Railway Station at around 11:00, meet our guide and driver.  And then transfer to Jiabang terraced fields (3.5h). On the way to Jiabang, we will visit Huangang Dong village, Zhanli Dong village and other villages.

Visit Huanggang Dong village, which is the best kept Dong village in China with more than 800 Dong households living there. The locals do not speak Chinese well, since their native language is Dong, and they are proud of own typical culture, people here are good at singing.

Jiabang/Rongjiang(D)

Visit the famous terraced rice fields in Jiabang, and hike around if your time permits.

On the way to Rongjiang, we will take the remote country road passing through Mountain Moon, to explore the far Miao villages, where the outsiders could hardly touch, and the local famers especially local women still wear their traditional clothes, and have their typical headdress.

Visit the morning market in Rongjiang. After the market visit, we drive to visit a remote Miao village and a Shui village on the way, and then drive to Shiqiao Miao village, which is famous for paper making skill. All the Miao habitants here make paper with trees' bark and grass.

Visit Xiasi ancient town and then move to Matang village of Gejia group which is famous for batik making with wax and indigo.

Matang Gejia Village, a primitive village with over 420 Gejia people who are called the 57 th ethnic group in China unofficially. According to the legend, Gejia people are the  direct descendants of Hou Yi, a legendary hero who was said to shoot the nine scorching suns in order to save his people. Matang Village is famous for exotic attires, colorful festivals and countryside feelings. The women and girls here are specialized in batik that you can fully appreciate the uniqueness of the Gejia batik patterns and embroidery as well as the excellent craftsmanship of the villagers. If you are interested, you can learn how to make batik with wax from a local master and create your own batik work (optional experience with extra payment).

Visit the Lusheng festival in Gulong!

We suggest the visitors pack lunch before we arrive at the festival town, because the local street only serve dog meat, that's a local cuisine.

The Gulong Lusheng Festival is a significant and unique traditional festival. It is deeply rooted in the local ethnic culture. During this festival, people gather together wearing their traditional costumes. The lusheng, a kind of traditional musical instrument, plays a central role. There are exciting lusheng performances with melodious tunes filling the air. Dancers move gracefully to the rhythm, showing off their elaborate dance steps. It is also a time for socializing, as relatives and friends reunite, exchange greetings and share happiness. People celebrate their heritage, pass down their traditions, and strengthen their community bonds through various activities held in this festival, making it a vibrant and meaningful cultural occasion.

Visit the morning market in Kaili, and then drive to the Rice Harvest in a Miao village near Shidong township. After the festival visit, we drive to Zhenyuan ancient town, it takes another 1 hour's drive. Zhenyuan has a long history of 2000years.

With a history of more than 2,200 years, Zhenyuan Ancient Town features hundreds of ancient buildings in Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) Dynasties. After arriving at Zhenyuan Ancient Town, you will go to explore Black Dragon Cave (also called Qinglong Cave). This is not simply a cave, but a ancient architectural complex of ancient temples, pavilions, shrines and palaces standing on Zhonghe Mountain. It well presents the Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism culture with the magnificent construction and layout. It is said that Zhang Sanfeng, the founder of Tai Chi, personally selected and involved in the construction of the temples. This scenic spot is composed of the following parts including the Zhusheng Bridge, Zhongyuan Temple, Ziyang Shuyuan (Academy of Classical Learning), Jade Emperor Pavilion, Longevity Palace and Xianglu Yan. After getting to the top of the cave, catch the appealing panorama of Zhenyuan Ancient Town and Wuyang River in charm and peace. The visit will be truly a cultural highlight during your Zhenyuan trip.

Visit Black Dragon Cave temple and the alleys of Zhenyuan. On the way to Kaili, we visit Flying Cloud Cliff temple.

Drive to Langde Upper Miao village, experience Langde Miao welcome ceremony.

Langde Upper Miao Village, renowned as "the Hometown of Chinese Folk Song and Dance Art," located approximately 28 kilometers away from Kaili. This charming village offers a refreshing escape from bustling crowds, embracing a tranquil natural ambiance while welcoming visitors with open arms and showcasing its rich cultural heritage. Upon reaching the village, you will be greeted with genuine warmth through a traditional welcome ceremony with the lovely ladies and girls, elegantly adorned in traditional Miao costumes offering "block-the-way" wine. Allow the flavors of the wine to delight your senses while immersing yourself in the genuine hospitality of the villagers. Following the convivial toasts, immerse yourself further in the vibrant atmosphere as you witness an enthralling singing and dancing performance at the Lusheng Ground. Here, the talented men of the village will skillfully play the Lusheng, a traditional musical instrument, while the graceful ladies showcase their artistry through mesmerizing dances. Should you wish, feel free to join in the dance. To enrich your experience, you can take part in the village's Cultural Program which usually includes catching fish in the field, picking fresh vegetable in the farm and learning to make embroidery. After lunch in Langde, we take a short drive to Leigong mountain, and hike in the valley of waterfalls and then drive back to Kaili city. 

Visit the UNESCO scenic area called Xiaoqikong, famous for its natural landscapes.

Visit the local night food market.

As the unparalleled Karst forest on the same latitude in the world, Xiaoqikong is praised as “The Emerald on the Belt of the Earth”. Strolling around the Karst natural landscape at Seven Small Arches and Maolan National Nature Reserve in Libo, apart from the exquisite scenery of “Head up like Zhangjiajie, Head down as Jiuzhaigou”, there are also rich ethnic customs. Primitive villages of Bouyei Minority, the peculiar culture of Shui Minority, the strange customs in Yao villages and the exquisite clothes and handicrafts in Miao villages are all very appealing. When summer is coming, why not invite your friends to conquer the water in Shuichun River, experience the thrill of going up and down with the waves. When the sun goes down, ramble around local snack street, drink a bowl of cool bayberry juice and taste sour foods and fresh fish dishes. That is the full accomplishment of the Libo tour.

Visit Qingyan ancient town after we take the long drive of 3.5hours from Libo.
Qingyan is an ancient town, it used to be the south gate to Guiyang, with a long history of 600 years.

Depart Guiyang by flight or by bullet train. The trip ends.
